The Why… and the Wherefore of my Writing

I want my writing to be a merging, or a negotiation, between the innocent, earthy, organic nature of the working class, and the experienced, privileged world of the educated and/or economically successful who seem to float naturally within a dominant social class. My writing veers back and forth between these worlds with an attempt to converge, merge, and accomplish peace and understanding between the two —at least within myself, and not solely within the confines of a Eurocentric world — but capturing the whole world in all its colors, idiosyncrasies, personal freedoms, and responsibilities.

A literary source material that treats these issues to some degree is Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis, which shows that working class actors can make more sense when it comes to living life splendidly in what Zorba calls a “full catastrophe” situation. For help in this regard, I often draw upon Huck Finn, Holden Caufield, and Antoine de St Exupery, and real people who are in a peaceful battle for their life.
